TrueNoise is an independent community noise monitoring project operating under the departure corridors of Baltimore/Washington International Airport. We use calibrated instruments and published psychoacoustic science to measure what aircraft noise actually does to the human body โ not just how loud it is, but how the body responds to each event.
Choose the path that matches why you're here.
You live near BWI and want to understand what the noise is doing to your neighborhood and your health. The dashboard shows real measurements mapped to peer-reviewed health research โ in plain language.
You need to know how the measurements are made, what standards they follow, and what their limitations are before you can use or cite the data. Start with the methodology, then download the raw observations.
You want to contribute measurements from your own neighborhood, ask about the project, explore a collaboration, or simply reach out to the people behind TrueNoise.
TrueNoise is not affiliated with BWI Airport, the FAA, or any airline or operator. Every observation is made by community members using calibrated equipment. Every health claim is sourced to peer-reviewed research. All raw data is freely available for download.
